High quality education for children in Uganda

A few months ago, we congratulated eight Nyaka alumni who graduated with bachelors degrees from University. One of those incredible graduates was Gladeth, a 23-year-old young woman who graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science.

Gladeth reflects on her childhood and the impact Nyaka has had on her life, “My father died when I was a young girl. I lived with my mother and two siblings in Kanungu District. My mother was a peasant farmer and found it difficult to support the family. Before I joined Nyaka, life was not easy but Nyaka made life easier and better for me and the entire community.

I joined Nyaka Primary School in 2007 and during my time at Nyaka, they funded the entirety of my education. In 2019, after I completed my ‘A’ level studies, I won a scholarship from Beautiful World Canada to study for a bachelor’s degree at Makerere University. This support covered all of my tuition fees, school supplies, and allowed me to peacefully concentrate on my studies. On February 15, 2023, I successfully graduated!

I hope to use my degree to help people with their research needs and give them the information they require to stay informed and I hope to find work that enables me to do so. I am so grateful for the support rendered to me by Nyaka and Beautiful World Canada, because I would not be where I am today without them!”
