Our dear GlobalGiving donors and supporters,
Happy and Prosperous New Year. We welcome you to 2024!
We deeply appreciate you for laying the foundation for young girls like 10-year-old Tamar who is in Primary 4 in CDM Primary School Lila in Mubi Hills, in Adamawa State in North-east Nigeria. She wants to become a teacher to inspire young girls like her to go to school. Your donation has given her access to learning materials that will help to make her dream a reality and the hope for a brighter future!
Education is a fundamental right that should be accessible to every child, irrespective of their socioeconomic background. However, in developing countries like Nigeria, a significant education gap hinders the development and potential of children from poor families, especially those living in remote villages in North-East Nigeria like Lila, Gilmari and Lainde in Mubi Hills in Adamawa State. Children like Tamar and her peers attend underfunded schools with limited facilities. These schools lack basic resources; thus, the pupils are deprived of the same learning experiences and opportunities as their counterparts from richer families. The lack of access to quality education further perpetuates the cycle of poverty and limits the dreams and chances of upward social mobility for these children.
Research has shown that limited access to resources such as books, technology, and educational support further exacerbates the education gap. Therefore, without these essential tools, children from low-income families struggle to keep up with their peers, continuing the sequence of poverty and limiting their future opportunities. Education is a powerful tool that can break the cycle of poverty and empower individuals to create a better future for themselves and their communities. However, access to quality education remains a challenge for many impoverished families and communities. Therefore, to bridge the education gap, it is important to develop and implement effective projects that close the gap.
One major way that Keeping It Real Foundation has been bridging the gap for children like Tamar is by providing access to learning materials such as textbooks, storybooks, writing materials, computers, desks, bookshelves for reading corners, renovating and building classrooms because we know that these interventions are key drivers to enrolment and attendance of pupils, and their learning outcomes; consequently providing the enabling environment for quality education.
The Boko Haram insurgency disrupted the education of the children in CDM Primary Schools; Lila, Lainde and Gilmari. However, with your support, our dear GlobalGiving donors, two schools were built, and one was renovated and educational resources have been provided since 2017. Thus, children who had once been deprived of an education were able to return to school and regain a sense of normalcy in their lives. This success story highlights the importance of donors like you in rebuilding education systems in post-conflict and remote settings.
It is now our tradition to ensure that every child who enrols in the schools that we adopted has writing materials to go back to school every academic year. In September last year, after the children resumed for the new academic year, we had fundraising for Back-To-School supplies to ensure that our little friends like 8-year-old Roka, Tamar and their 350 schoolmates have access to quality education, stay in school and not be left behind. Our goal for the Back-To-School Project was to support pupils like Roka and Tamar in the underserved community primary schools; CDM Lila, Lainde and Gilmari with writing materials. We are glad to inform you that we raised enough funds because of you, our wonderful donors, to support all 352 pupils and their teachers with writing materials. Thus, with your investment our amazing donors, every child who enrolled for the new academic session like Roka and Tamar got writing materials!
However, we still need $29,721 to ensure that little girls like Roka, Tamar and their friends continue their education and follow their dreams. CDM Primary School Lainde still needs flooring and windows, CDM Secondary School Lila needs solar panels for their computers, and more laptops and all the schools need educational materials (writing materials, textbooks, and storybooks) and about 100 desks. Kindly consider becoming a recurring donor and donating to our project. Please encourage your friends, family, and colleagues so that we can invest in more children like Roka, Tamar, and their Schoolmates, to ensure that girls like Tamar get the educational support they need to become teachers in future!
Therefore, we encourage you to invest in the future of Tamar and her schoolmates to enable them to become successful adults. Please join us to ensure that Tamar’s dream of becoming a teacher becomes a reality. Please visit our project page bit.ly/2TLI6Bm for details.
Thank you so much for all you have done and are doing to close the education gap and promote quality education in underserved communities!
