Since December 2017, GG concentrated it’s efforts in encouraging pupils in Bolni Primary to read more in order to improve their academic performance. We have engaged parents to provide convenient places at home and monitor their children to read. By January 2018, we observed remarkable rise in interest among children in reading both at school and at home. Lipeemba, the Mother of Kitindo, informed us that his daughter now makes efforts to read any material she finds at home. “Whenever her friends come to the house, they pick materials and read together but occasionally go to their brother for help when they are in difficulty. However, my fear is that if they are not giving appropriate reading materials, they may be reading adult materials which are not supposed to be read by children” narrated Lipeemba.
Fortunately, with donations received from GlobalGiving, the fear of Lipeemba and many other parents and teachers of Bolni was allayed when GG supplied story books to the children of the school. After receiving the donation, 10 years old Kitindo was overjoyed and said “for the first time, I have a reading book of my own which I can read anywhere any time. I like the stories in it. I hope that one day I will be able to write our own local stories just like the way this is written. I am much grateful to all the GlobalGiving supporters who make it possible for us to get these books.”
In the coming months, GG intends to intensify its monitoring to encourage pear-to-pear reading habits among the beneficiary children to make the books more useful. Our joy is in the feedback we receive from children who benefit from your generous support. We hope that you continue your kind donation to make all the children better readers with child friendly reading materials. Once again, Grameen Ghana extends the sincere thanks and appreciation from the teachers, parents and pupils of Bolni in Northern Region of Ghana.
