Report Back: the 2020 African Angels Proudly South African Beach Walk

By Lou Billett | Chair, African Angels Trust

The beautiful Chintsa beach, South Africa.
The beautiful Chintsa beach, South Africa.

Every year we hold an annual fundraiser - the 2020 African Angels Beach Walk. Mostly, it's a walk for our local community and our kids, and it's always a lovely, relaxed and fun morning, walking along our magnificent unspoilt beach +/- 5 kilometres. This year we decided to add a theme - and so we had the Proudly South African theme.

It's important to us that the kids are proud of themselves, their community, and of being South African. Building self and nation pride is one way to build a better future for us all. Building pride costs nothing, but gives children so much more when faced with so many hurdles in life, like ours are.

This year a number of our sponsors and supporters joined the walk, and our local equipment hire company Talisman Hire was the main sponsor, and the owners walked with their families. Whilst it's meant to be a walk, there is always fierce competition between the kids to make it a race (of course) and the first boy in this year was a fine example of persistence and resilience. Anahko has always been in the top five, but this year he was determined to be the first boy in - and he was. For the first time we had one of our dads, Likke, who has two girls at African Angels, come in first.

Best friends Dominique and Neve ran in as co-first girls and shared their first prize goody bag. Temie, a mom of Sandisile who is in grade 4, was the first woman home.

We are proud to be nation building through education in South Africa, and giving some of the most disadvantaged children in South Africa hope for a better future.

Thank you for being part of our global family and choosing to invest in African Angels.

With love from the Angels, all the way from South Africa.
