We want to tell you how you have contributed to the well-being and development of 250 children and their families.
This year, our formative meetings for parents will focus on “Human love, affectivity and sexuality”, to promote healthy relationships and prevent violence in our neighborhoods, where conflicts are a daily reality (Ecuador is the most violent country in Latin America). In this line, we offered a special workshop on the importance of emotional containment in child development and promoted integration activities such as walks, a film forum on “Overprotection and the life cycle”, birthday celebrations and breakfasts, generating spaces for trust and socialization between children and mothers.
To improve the well-being of the families, we conditioned our spaces: we installed play mats and carpets to insulate the floor from the cold, since Pisulí is at 3160 meters above sea level and the children must stimulate themselves without shoes. In addition, we adapted the bathrooms to encourage children's autonomy and facilitate diaper changes.
Educationally, learning experiences for the older children are now planned according to their interests, instead of being based solely on the needs of the educator. This change has enhanced their curiosity, creativity and hands-on learning.
Nor did we neglect children's health, an urgent challenge in Ecuador, where 1 in 5 children suffer from chronic child malnutrition because they live in food insecure homes. During this period, the local health center supported us with a workshop on healthy eating and a day for anthropometric control (where we detected 35 cases of malnutrition), as well as flu vaccinations and updated diagrams.
Finally, thanks to the Christmas campaign and our emergency fund, we delivered more than 150 material aid items, including food and to attend to urgent health and food cases.
Your support makes a difference. Let's continue building spaces of well-being and development for those who need it most.
