Thanks to our Early Childhood program, we have supported the integral development of 233 children!
Our nursery "Ojos de Cielo" has cared for 40 children. Due to parents' need to return to their jobs after lockdown, we happily welcomed back their children. We followed all the recommended measures and offered them snacks and a nutritious lunch. According to their parents' preferences (such as fear of contagion), some children receive virtual instruction and nutritional reinforcement kits at home.
The physical spaces of the nursery, the daily routines, and the activities are designed to give children "Significant Learning Experiences." They are developed considering the child's curiosity and the needs of the educator. The didactic resources are games made with recycled materials to stimulate the children with elements found in their environment. We developed activities like "Farm animals," "Who am I?" "The magic of the senses," and "Our feathered friends: the birds.".
Parents have participated in monthly training workshops and meetings to evaluate the progress of their children and how to reinforce education at home. With the PelCa (Home Education Program), 172 mothers have been guided by our family counselors to carry out daily educational activities with their children at home through workshops about early education and home visits. In total, 193 children have received - directly from their parents - learning experiences in their family context. Around 33% of these mothers are young between the ages of 15 and 25 who desire to educate their children positively.
Thanks to the constant monitoring of the educators and the guidelines transmitted on nutrition at home, most children have maintained their weight and height, as their parents have tried to give them foods rich in iron and calcium. More than 70 children with (or at risk of) malnutrition have received nutritional booster kits.
“My husband, when the confinement began, was fired from his recent job. My mother was working as a house keeper but she was also fired because she was old and so at risk during the pandemic. We all lost our jobs. At the same time, schools and nurseries also closed and my children had to stay at home… food was not going to last because we were all locked in the house. We, as adults, can bear without eating, but my children cannot. Fortunately, Fundación Sembrar started distributing food kits, helping us with educational material for my children and overall, caring and communicating with us all the time. For me it was a joy, they helped us and were supporting us when we most needed.”
