Help us build & expand our early childhood development center. Our play-based program - developed by our Education Coordinator, creates a well-rounded learning environment that prepares our kids for primary school and their future. With the inclusion of learning activities, protective services, nutritional support, hygiene and sanitation services, and mental and physical health activities, this project aims to ensure that our kids are properly equipped to meet their goals of a successful future.
In Rwanda, the government provides primary education to all Rwandan children. Still, many families, often headed by single mothers, cannot afford the cost of private and expensive early childhood education. Only 18% of children between ages 3 and 6 have opportunities to attend early educational programs. Impoverished children are 3x more likely to be severely stunted than their richer counterparts.
Our objective is to deliver an early childhood development program provided during a child's early critical years to create a safe environment that allows children to become happy, productive, and independent adults. We've incorporated 5 integral pillars "learning, protection, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation, and health" in our program to holistically support the healthy development of these young children.
The Early Childhood Development (ECD) program by Shelter Them aims to break the cycle of poverty by equipping vulnerable children in Rwanda with essential early education, health, sanitation and nutrition, setting them on a path to academic success and stable employment. By promoting gender equality, improving health outcomes, and promoting social inclusion, the program strengthens families and communities, laying the groundwork for a future generation that is educated, healthy, and empowered.
