Central to the ethos of UWC is the belief that education can bring together young people from all backgrounds on the basis of their shared humanity; to engage with the possibility of social change through courageous action, personal example and selfless leadership. This is why every year at UWC Costa Rica, and through your support, we bring together a deliberately diverse group of young people that represent both the rich cultural heritages and the prevailing tensions of our world to empower them to become agents of positive change .
We are able to do this thanks to UWC's unique National Committee system that allows us to select outstanding students in their own countries through a network of more than 3,000 volunteers in 155 countries. As we speak most National Committees around the world are hard at work to finalize their selection processes or sending their student nominations to the 17 UWC Colleges and Schools -including UWC Costa Rica!
The picture above is from the student Selection Camp run by the UWC National Committee in Costa Rica that took place at UWC Costa Rica on October 2018. For our students, their transformational education journey begins with their selection process, and the Costa Rican National Committee is a great example of this.
This Committee has transformed their selection process into a youth social entrepreneurship experience. As part of the selection process, these young men and women work together to identify challenges that affect their communities and create innovative solutions to address these needs all the while receiving workshops to identify their own potential as agents of change and gaining basic project planning and management skills. We invite you to visit the Facebook page of the Costa Rican National Committee to see videos of the projects being created by these incredible young people at https://www.facebook.com/uwccrcomitenacional/
3 of the youth in the photo will soon receive their official admission to UWC Costa Rica with full scholarships. Thanks to you, their scholarships will be strengthened to cover the expenses associated with coming to a UWC that aren't covered by their full scholarships such as University Admission costs, language tutoring in English, psychological support and more. Thank you for joining us in believing in these young men and women and showing them that their circumstances will not limit their potential!
So far, together we've raised $11,019 securing the $5K needed for 2 of the 12 full scholars that need our support next year. Please help us one more time by sharing this campaign with your family and friends networks and inviting them to join us so that we can secure the funding the 10 remaining students still need.
Thank you,
