In a modest tent in one of the informal camps on the outskirts of the city of Soran in northern Syria, eight-year-old Wael lives with his mother. Wael lost his father 4 years ago due to cancer..

Wael’s mother says that her husband struggled against illness once and against poverty and hunger again, as my husband worked while he was sick in order to support us and he refused to buy any kind of medicine because our money was not enough for us. My husband passed away after struggling with the disease for a full year without treatment or medication, and Wael and I remained alone in this cruel world.

Wael says I work with my mother in picking agricultural crops so that we can provide basic needs. He continues with tears filling his eyes. I cannot go to school like the rest of my friends because I do not have the money to buy any school supplies. I also need to work with my mother because during the winter we often do not work due to heavy rains.

When we asked Wael about his dream, he answered without hesitation: I dream of going to school, completing my education, and becoming an agricultural engineer, taking care of lands and agricultural crops. I love working in agriculture because the green color emanating from the fields gives me hope for a better tomorrow.

Thanks to wonderful people like you, we were able to include Wael and his mother in the bread and food project in northern Syria, which will make Wael and his mother happy, as providing them with basic food supplies on an ongoing basis will contribute to giving Wael the opportunity to attend school this year.

Your giving may be small from your point of view, but in reality your small, continuous giving means a lot to tired families who do not have breadwinners.

Wars are not just a story of armed conflict between parties, in which everyone wants to win, but rather a set of stories imposed by the reality of the conflict, so that every family has its own story with the war, and every woman has her own story. Stories that narrate disappointments and defeats, stories of pain, loss and displacement, stories of challenge, confrontation and heroism, stories of success. But not everyone is able to tell their stories..

Mrs. Khadija's story is one of the saddest stories we encountered in the camps of northern Syria.

Khadija says, "My husband was arrested two years ago when he was going to the city of Aleppo to look for work there, and since then we have not known anything about him, whether he is alive or dead." She continues with tears streaming from her eyes, "My 16-year-old son Saeed was forced to travel to Turkey to work there, and I and my two daughters, Suad and Amal, remained here in the northern countryside of Aleppo."

Saeed was constantly sending us money so that we could meet our needs. But I lost my only son during the earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey last year and tears started to flow from her eyes. In fact, we stood stunned by the horror of what we heard. Then Khadija continued, unfortunately, our house became uninhabitable due to physical damage to the structure, and my daughters and I became without a breadwinner or shelter.

I did not surrender to these circumstances and decided to stand firm for the sake of my daughters, and we moved to live in a tent. It is a small place, but we can manage our affairs in it. I currently work in agriculture and with the coming of winter I am looking for another job because working in agriculture is seasonal work.

Here, Mrs. Khadija burst into tears and asked permission to enter her tent with the food basket that we delivered to her.

We could not get better pictures with Mrs. Khadija's family because of the horror of the situation and our awareness of the extent of the sadness and pain that squeezes the heart of this struggling woman.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to sponsor Ms. Khadija's family and provide a monthly food ration that includes basic items, which contributes to alleviating her suffering and making her breathe a sigh of relief to feel a little comfort.With benefactors like you, we continue on the path of goodness that your generous donations have paved, to be of help to the weak in an area full of tears and sorrows.
