Hello Medic Outpost Family,
I hope everyone is well. I wanted to update you on our work in rural Mexico. As many of you know, Mexico just finished a presidental election cycle. When this happens in Mexico the lower departments of the government are thrown into a sort of limbo. They are not active in working on new projects or supporting existing ones. Medic Outpost relies on the Ministries of Health in various states to provide logistical support for our programs. They also provide information and security for us as we often work in very isolated areas where cartel violence comes and goes.
While we are not physically there at the moment, we have been working very hard on pre-training activites to get ready to return in a couple of months. As always we need your help. Here is a short list of things we have been working on.
- Purchase and development of supplies for midwife birthing kits
- Development of print and audio-visual education programs for village responders
- Pasantes (medical interns) training program resources
- Advanced neonatal resusication medical kits for rural clinics
As you can see, we have been busy. Please consider helping us support these programs. No amount is too small.
I would also like to bring you up to date on our work in rural Guatemala. I have been working with a local NGO to provide treatment and evaluation in rural villages in the central part of the country. Medic Outpost has made equipment donations in partnership with the Antigua Rotary Club to help rural EMS clubs. We are planning to continue this work and expand to bring our midwife training to Guatemala in the future. I will have a project page on that also. We will also be taking volunteers to Guatemala in the future to help work on some of these projects. Please stay tuned for more info on this exciting work.
Thank you all for your support,
Larry Hill
