Hope For Our Sisters, Inc. (HFOS) is pleased to share our quarterly update with all of the investors in our endeavor to help provide life-saving maternal care through the Maternal Health Fund at the Wellness Clinic in Goma, Democractic Republic of the Congo. Our partners at the Wellness Clinic report that our maternal funds helped to pay for 135 cesarean deliveries between January and April of 2021! Twenty-nine of these women could pay nothing at all and were fully covered by the fund, with the other 105 women receiving partial assistance. There were also 285 women who had vaginal deliveries with skilled attendants in this safe location. Additionally, 1,009 prenatal visits were conducted! These are enormous numbers of women receiving maternal care in a region where they might otherwise have no access to these life-saving services, as families will often be turned away if they cannot afford the fees for care, putting both mothers and babies at risk for permanent injury and death. Your investments are helping to protect entire communities of women, and promoting best care practices for the next generation.

One such woman who benefitted from the Maternal Health Fund was Afoum, whose picture appears in this report. Just before her due date, Afoum's husband was involved in an accident while working as a motorcycle taxi driver. He was in critical condition, and all of the family's savings was spent on his care, leaving nothing when Afoum went into labor and needed a cesarean delivery. The family did not have to worry, as the bills were covered by YOU. We know that the last fifteen months have been financially challenging for so many, and the generosity of our followers and investors has been extremely moving. Please continue to keep our medical partners and the communities surrounding Goma in your thoughts as they seek to fight for health equity, vaccine access, and economic stability, despite many challenges.

Please reach out to us at info@hopeforoursisters.org with any questions about this project or HFOS' work in general.  We also invite you to share our project page with your family and friends, and visit our Facebook page (Hope For Our Sisters, Inc.). The more awareness we can spread about the great need for cesarean deliveries and maternal care in Goma, the more lives we can touch and change together
