Dear donors,
Greetings from Bangalore Baptist Hospital Society!
What a joy it is to share Ramaiah’s story!
Join us as we celebrate the way his life has been touched, transformed and his dignity restored. You made this possible! Thank you for partnering with us in our mission of touching lives of people with disabilities.
Ramaiah will never forget the day his life changed forever. He was walking down his village road when something hit him from the back. When he woke up in hospital, he realized that something was seriously wrong, as he couldn’t move his legs. He still doesn’t recollect what hit him!
“When I woke up, I was unable to feel below my waist and the skin on my back had been completely peeled off. I was in bed for a very long time. I was totally dependent on my wife and daughter for everything and this had an impact on them as well,” narrated Ramaiah.
We met Ramaiah when he had come with his wife to one of our disability camps. We registered him with our District Disability Rehabilitation Centre. He received his national disability identity card entitling him to a monthly disability pension.
When our team visited him at home, his wife narrated the difficulty Ramaiah faced with respect to toileting, as they did not have a toilet in their house. “It’s so difficult for him to go out and squat; more humiliating, as he has to be assisted either by me or our daughter. He’s cut down on his eating to avoid going out,” she cried in despair.
With his neighbors and family helping with labor, we built him a toilet free of cost. “I’m so glad now; it’s so convenient and my dignity has been restored,” says an emotional Ramaiah. “You have saved the dignity of my daughter as well."
“With the help of a walker, now I take a short walk in my street and enjoy chatting with my neighbors and friends. I have begun to visit the temple in my neighborhood and I feel my life has been restored.”
His family has felt the impact of his transformation too. His wife and daughter who work as agricultural laborers can now spend more time at work, while Ramaiah takes care not only of himself, but even helps with small errands in the house.
His plans for the future? “I want to start my own business to improve our financial status and want to get my daughter married."
It's such a joy to see the transformation in Ramaiah’s life. We thank you for making a difference in his life. It is your generosity and belief in our mission that enables us to perform this work, and we are deeply grateful for your partnership.
We request you to share this story with your family and friends so that they too could experience the joy of reaching out to those in need.
With gratitude
