Dear Donors,
We are delighted to share our project highlights from 2023, which show the impact of your generous support for the preservation and promotion of photographic cultural heritage through the CIFHA Foundation. Here is a brief summary of our activities:
Preservation and Access: Our photographic archive currently holds more than one million documents, with over 200 fonds and collections from 1843 to the present. In 2023 we have included important collections of renowned photographers such as Juan Gómez and Paraguayan Tiburcio González. Through our digital archiving systems, AtoM and Koha, part of our holdings can be consulted free of charge.
Exhibitions and educational initiatives: In 2023 we reopened our art gallery, 1101 Foto Espacio, with an exhibition of the American photographer Harry Grant Olds called "The Foreigner". In addition, we conducted lab workshops and organized guided tours, group lectures, conferences and educational activities involving students and the community at large. We began to prepare the first individual exhibition of Silvio Zuccheri, one of the greatest exponents of Argentine photojournalism, who donated his archive of more than 300 thousand images from 60 years of work.
Global recognition: We won one of the most relevant global grants in the field of archival preservation, awarded by UCLA (University of California Los Angeles), called "Modern Endangered Archives Program", for our project "The Forgotten Life and Papers of Alejandro C. Del Conte". For the first time the figure of Olds had a well-deserved recognition in an important media in the United States: the journalist Jori Finkel wrote an article in The Art Newspaper in which she summarized our work with the H. G. Olds Fund in the last decade. In addition, this work with Olds was internationally recognized by UNESCO's Memory of the World Program.
From Fundación CIFHA we thank all the institutions and organizations that trust us and support us, as well as the people who help and collaborate through donations so that we can continue to carry out week after week the tasks of preservation and dissemination of the collections and photographic holdings of our collection, and make possible their free and open access in our country and the world. This encourages contemporary artistic practice as well as strengthens the recognition of Argentine photography in the rest of the continents.
We invite you to learn more about our project and the impact of your support by visiting our GlobalGiving page.
Thank you for your continued generosity.
Sincerely,
The CIFHA Foundation Team.
