In Oaxaca, we address the issue of malnutrition and excessive consumption of ultra-processed "junk food" products in indigenous communities. These habits lead to health problems such as diabetes, obesity, and malnutrition. Our mission is to promote healthy eating for 120 girls and boys by encouraging the consumption of fruits and vegetables and reclaiming the traditional diet. Through workshops, school gardens and awareness, we aim to improve health and raising empower the communities.
Currently, in the state of Oaxaca, girls and boys are facing a concerning increase in cases of obesity, diabetes, and malnutrition, exacerbated by the excessive consumption of ultra-processed products. These dietary habits have adverse effects on both the physical and mental development of minors, which negatively impacts their quality of life.
Educational nutrition workshops will be conducted for 120 girls and boys in six indigenous municipalities. Additionally, the establishment of school gardens will be promoted, where they will learn to cultivate their own food. This approach will not only strengthen their connection to the land but also contribute to the rescue and preservation of the traditional regional diet. Furthermore, it will ensure that this knowledge is passed on to future generations, promoting a healthy and sustainable.
The goal is to reduce malnutrition and improve the health of 120 girls and boys. Additionally, six school gardens will be established and consolidated, enabling a healthier diet. This, in turn, will result in a better quality of life and the promotion of sustainability and local development. Moreover, by reducing the reliance on ultra-processed products, it will contribute to a decrease in waste generation, which has a positive impact on the environment.
