Last month we looked at how ChatGPT is impacting the GIS world, with expert speaker Dr Hans van der Kwast Associate Professor of Open Science & Digital Innovation at Delft Institute for Water Education. He spoke at our regular session for youth mappers and the recording is here.
We also organised a session with mappers from Accenture recently in which we outlined the challenges girls face in their long walks to school, and how mapping can help schools have a better picture of where girls are walking from and allow them to more fairly allocate resources such as hostel places. You can read more about this in our local rep Alpha's presentation here.
We are continuing to map online and on the ground. Our remote mappers had a great month in May when over 200 volunteers mapped over 12km of roads and 28,500 buildings in Tanzania into OpenStreetMap, to support community development, navigation and help protect girls from Female Genital Mutilation. This is an ongoing project that anyone with an internet connection (even intermittently) can get involved in. More information here.
Thank you again for your support.
With gratitude
Janet
