Thanks to our donor's support and the fact that the security situation in the area has improved slightly, we have been able to resume on-site activities and continue strengthening our efforts in the conservation of the Bahía Magdalena mangroves. Over the past months, we have made progress in engaging with the local community and planning future conservation and environmental education activities.
In December, we conducted a field visit to the La Poza parcels, where we met with community members to discuss our future plans. Accompanied by a local fisherman, we explored a parcel, visited oyster farming camps, and toured the mangroves to outline possible conservation activities.
In March, we returned to these parcels to carry out a photographic survey of areas with potential for ecotourism and environmental education activities. We were joined by a local guide who helped us identify key sites for future initiatives.
La Poza is a neighboring community to Santo Domingo, located to the north and sharing very similar socioeconomic characteristics. This engagement with the La Poza community holds great potential for fostering collaboration with the Santo Domingo community. These advances bring us closer to our goal of creating a network of community guardians for the protection of the mangroves!
