In light of the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence, we are happy to share with you that we have piloted a project specifically for young girls who have been subjected to any kind of violence.
The story began with a one day activity in collaboration with a local NGO in Greater Cairo, this day focused on art therapy and psychosocial awareness for girls under 18 who have been subjected to GBV (physical or psychological). The insights of this day turned out to be amazing enough to encourage us to design a full support program for these girls and include more girls from different areas.
“Tashbeek” in Arabic means "Connection", this project has been born from an essential need for help and support for young girls who have been subjected to any kind of violence and don’t know where to go or what to do. In collaboration with psychoanalysts and art therapists, we designed this program to help these girls to identify their emotions and learn how to live with trauma.
We successfully piloted this project with three different local NGOs in Cairo for more than 28 girls including refugees!
We are still rolling out the program with a last group in this pilot, and the outcomes already are extremely encouraging. Hearing from the girls that no one has ever heard them or helped them to go through difficult times, and how this program has been eye opening for them, is priceless.
It doesn’t end here, Tashbeek works on referral as well, to help severe cases to get the suitable medical and psychological support. In collaboration with the local NGOs , we are working with them on an orientation for the mental health services available for girls and how they can get use from it. This shall help in maintaining the outcomes of the program and the sustainability of the impact.
It doesn’t end here, with your support we can scale up the intervention to include more young girls who need support.
With 2024 coming to an end, we thank you enormously for your continuous support and we look forward to having more achievements for a better and healthy future for women in Egypt.
Stay tuned for the testimonials from the girls in our next newsletter!
