Happy 2024!
Since our last update, we turned 5 years old as an organization. We celebrated with the community, providing free craft programming in November at our headquarters in Liberty Station. As we head into our 6th year of existence, we're excited to start the year with news about growing our studio and more Craft2Gether programming. At our headquarters location in San Diego, we're part of an arts district. It's a lovely place to be, and we really love it here, but we've outgrown the space by far with all of the programs that we offer.
We host in-person classes and workshops in many areas of craft: woodworking, fused and stained glass, sewing, macrame, weaving, natural dyes, wheel-thrown ceramics, hand building ceramics, and the list goes on. The good news is that we've recently started renting additional space (conveniently next door!) that we turned into a beautiful classroom where we teach fiber arts and early childhood craft classes. This is important for Craft2Gether because it has freed up some very needed space around our CNC machine in the main studio. Our machine has been buried for a couple of months! We're really excited to have more room now so we can continue building more kits. Additionally, we have a new staff training coming up to train our staff on digital fabrication, which will help us ramp up our kit making abilities.
We also have a new partnership to announce. It is with a local organization that works with East African community members here in San Diego. We'll be supporting their middle school and high school programming by teaching sewing and woodworking classes onsite at their facility. The students will receive this education free of charge, and we are in search of funding to ensure that any student who is interested, will be able to have their own sewing machine that they can take home to use after learning skills with us through our Craft2Gether programming.
Thank you for your support and please help spread the word about Craft2Gether and the work we're doing to combat depression, anxiety, and increase children's sense of well-being through craft.
Warm regards from me and the Craft Collective Team!
