We're so grateful for the continuous donations. Thank you thank you! The financial support is helping us to replenish supplies and to pay craftspeople/artists to design kits for us. Over the holiday season, we made paper craft kits for holiday cards and winterscape scenes. Our focus currently is to design more kits and create enough paper craft kits for an entire elementary school.
Woodworking is definitely one of our most popular kits. It's also one of the trickiest to put in front of children for a few reasons-- the biggest reason is woodworking requires tools and many of these kiddos lack proper supervision. It's taking some creative thinking to make our woodworking kits engaging, fun, and still safe for a variety of different challenges that some of the children receiving them face. We're up to the challenge though! For example, sharp objects and hammers can be dangerous triggers for certain groups and cannot be added to most kits. Another challenge is that some children are working in cramped spaces like the backseat of a car (what they may currently call home). Lacking tables or even solid ground to lay out projects makes it difficult to craft! Our answer to that is more clever kit designs! We have a new Robot Kit in the works that comes with a surface to work on as part of the project.
We are also doing research on packaging. For the time being, most of our kits get delivered in small and medium size paper bags, but the woodworking tool kits definitely need something more substantial like a box. The package must be something eco friendly or easily recycled to be in line with our standards and our mission as a nonprofit. We want to leave as small of an eco footprint as possible!
We're humbled by and grateful to have your support. We are passionate about helping children find happiness and build hand skills through craft. Thanks for joining us on the journey!
With gratitude,
The Craft Collective Team
