We're happy to announce that we've achieved our goal of donating craft kits to 350 children in San Diego this summer! Craft2Gether has gained some real momentum since our GlobalGiving fundraiser launched in June where we raised $5,000.
Our craft kits went to children at Perkins Elementary (reporting a homeless population of 33%) and Miramar’s Marine Corps Community Services. We have officially partnered with Monarch School, a K-12 school dedicated to teaching homeless youth, to provide craft kits and craft education on an on-going, long-term basis. We are currently working out details to teach private, outdoor craft classes to small groups of refugee children through Seeds of Hope and will be donating craft kits to all of the girls at Casa de Amparo in November and December. So far, we've designed 7 different craft kits that consist of sewing, embroidery, papercraft and woodworking. Projects are ranging from kindergarten all the way up to teens.
In a few short months, we’ve found that Craft2Gether is very much needed in our community, especially with nearly 100% of education currently being delivered via computer screen due to COVID. Children are more than ever eagerly craving to be creative with their hands! The Craft2Gether project is quickly gaining momentum, and we are committed to seeing it grow into a long-term resource for San Diego children to learn high-quality arts+craft education.
Our next goal is to raise another $5,000 to continue the good work! With those funds we'll be able to buy more supplies for more craft kits, pay artists to design new kits, pay instructors to appear in live, interactive videos and also pre-recorded videos for the children to watch as they complete the projects.
We currently don't have images of the children at work. It's been difficult to get the photography releases from guardians, but hopefully we'll have some in the next report!
