Things have dramatically changed in Uganda due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, putting millions of slum-dwellers at the risk of starvation. This is serious. While we are worried about the possibility of some people getting infected by the Coronavirus, we should be more worried about the fact that millions of low-income people in Uganda, especially the urban poor, are already starving. And the situation is getting worse by the day. You can save a life by contributing as little as 10 US Dollars.
On 19 March 2020, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni announced stringent measures to contain the Corona Virus outbreak. These orders have left virtually all slum-dwellers without a source of income to put food on the table. Unfortunately, the restrictions of means of transport, coupled with human greed, have increased the prices of foodstuff and other essential items by more than 100 percent. families that needed at least 5 US Dollars a day to survive, now need at least 10 USD Dollars.
This project will provide food for poor people in the Katanga Slum, Kampala Uganda. This is a short-term measure to keep families afloat during these difficult times. While we are worried about the possibility of some people getting infected by the Coronavirus, we should be more worried about the fact that millions of low-income people in Uganda, especially the urban poor, are already starving. And the situation is getting worse by the day.
With your assistance, we hope to provide basic foodstuff for 20 families for 30 days. This will be coupled with positive messages to instill resilience. We hope that the worst will be over in a month or so, such that our beneficiaries can continue with their normal lives and be saved from this disaster.
