This project uses sewing skills training to empower 100 mothers from vulnerable families financially and emotionally in this COVID19 crisis. Mothers learn skills, earn a monthly income, and are part of the peer-counseling program.
We have registered more than two hundred families who came to Root Foundation to seek support to be able to get back on their feet in this lockdown crisis. Although the Covid-19 hurts everybody, in Rwanda's poor communities, women and children suffer most. Cases of domestic violence have doubled during this crisis, mainly because of the financial depression that most families are experiencing. Mothers are in a critical need of being empowered to resist and overcome the domestic violence threats
100 mothers from the most vulnerable families are empowered to provide for their families. Each mother will be given a two-month intensive training in sewing skills, during the training she will be paid from making basic COVID19 preventive products such as face masks and bandanas which will be sold by a volunteers marketing team. Mothers come together after classes to discuss the experiences they are going through in their homes, and to learn the best practices in parenting, academic assist
The project will build safer families for mothers and children. It will not just support a mother financially but also build her confidence and dignity.
