Since April 1st, Nyaka has taken a number of measures to ensure the Nyaka community remains safe in the face of COVID-19. Nyaka is continuing to educate the community about the dangers of increased Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) while schools remain closed and students remain at home under government orders. Our SGBV program has continued to offer services to the community. To date, 65 survivors have been supported by our SGBV program during and immediately after lockdown. These survivors are receiving the individualized medical, legal, and mental health care they need to find justice and peace.
In addition to our SGBV program resources, Nyaka has done a number of things to help the community including but not limited to distributing bars of soap to the COVID-19 task force and grandmothers, distributing masks, and ensuring multiple hand washing stations are in the community to encourage constant hand washing.
