Thank you so much for your support of this project. I’m writing to share some updates from ActionAid’s emergency response in India. We appreciate you taking the time to learn about and act in response to this crisis.
Disasters, crises, and conflicts have a disproportionate effect on women. They increase the likelihood of women's human rights violations, they often exclude women from decision making processes, and they deny women access to resources.
The pandemic has been no different, as it has exacerbated existing inequalities and vulnerabilities across populations in India, particularly among women and girls.
ActionAid manages several projects to support those who are most affected. Our work with young women and girls living in urban areas in India supports them with skill building, entrepreneurship, educational opportunities, recognizing and claiming sexual and reproductive rights, and addressing violence at home and harassment in public spaces.
Further, throughout the pandemic ActionAid has supported young women to advocate on their own behalf to strengthen laws and policies that support their rights and safety, such as an increase in gender responsive public services, like streetlights and toilets.
Despite being the population hardest hit by the pandemic, ActionAid's work has reached thousands of young women and girls across India, building their confidence and leadership and supporting them to mobilize and advocate for systematic shifts that will strengthen their rights for decades to come. This response is possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like you. Thank you for being part of the ActionAid team!
