In many slums in Nigeria, millions of people who are affected by the over 2 months lockdown may not have been reached with the palliatives shared by the government for several reasons. One of them is that there is no access roads to where they live and were not captured in the Social Investment Program of the Federal Government. By this project, we wish to raise funds to enable us distribute food items, such as: rice, garri, yams, etc to 100 of such families selected from Imo State and the FCT.
Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa is awakening to a new economic and social reality as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. While the virus infects people regardless of wealth and social status, the poor will be most affected. In 2019, Nigeria surpassed India in terms of the number of people living in abject poverty. Living with typically high-density houses, with reduced access to sanitation, and a lack of savings to self-isolate, the poor are at greater risk of contracting the disease.
As an organization that works closely with youths and women in the rural areas, we have identified that these people are in dire need of help, especially food supplies. Through this project, we hope to raise funds to enable us distribute food items, such as: rice, garri, yams, onions, condiments, oil, etc to about 100 families selected from some rural areas in Imo State and slums in Abuja.
This project will support 100 families in the selected communities with food supplies that will enable them survive the remaining days of the lockdown in Nigeria. It will also bring relief to these families whose daily businesses are affected by the 2 months Covid-19 lockdown.
