37 boys between the ages of 8-17 and 45 elderly between the ages of 60-101 years of age rescued from the streets or abandonment are being protected in two of our homes in Turbaco, Cartagena they are at high risk during the COVID-19 Pandemic. With your help, our house will be able to stock up on the necessary items to continue providing the best quality care during the 19- Quarantine.
Our children and grandparents need your help now more than ever. The national and local governments mandated school closures since Tuesday, March 16 and a 19-Day Quarantine starting Tuesday, March 24th, which means, the children will need to be homeschooled and complete hygiene routines more often. In the elderly facility, the beds are in communal dormitories, which means, one case of COVID-19 would spread rapidly through the home with deadly consequences.
Fundacion Dones de Misericordia will be able to provide both homes additional hygiene supplies, healthy meals and snacks, recreation, behavioral health services, and medication management, and will be able to homeschool the children during the quarantine. For example, the children are receiving specialized care and training to increase their awareness regarding self-care and prevention of COVID-19 spreading.
Having these additional resources will significantly increase our ability to preserve the lives of the elderly and keep them healthy. The children, who are the future, will learn long-lasting skills to keep themselves and their community safe and healthy, in addition to ensuring that by receiving appropriate academic and leisure activities, they will succeed instead of being left behind.
