Coronavirus Response in Afghanistan

Thank you for your support in fighting coronavirus in Afghanistan.

The situation is changing and developing rapidly in Afghanistan and we also keep adjusting and improving our activities. Bigger cities in Afghanistan are in lockdown and in many cities even praying in mosques are suspended to prevent any possible spread of the virus. All our children are at home and only a limited number of our staff and the youth who have had a comprehensive coronavirus prevention training after modification of our center attend the activities. We have coordinated with the authorities and received the permissions from the ministry of health for our work.

We had been pioneering production of masks but soon got good local competitors who make the masks cheaper and make it easier for us to buy from them to distribute. At the moment our main activities are as follow:

• production of face shields
• production of hand sanitizing stations
• painting of social distancing green rings in the public placeess such as in front of bakeries, pharmacies and markets
• distribution of both masks and face shields mainly for the hospitals
• production and distribution of coronavirus prevention info material such as posters

Next week we are going to add more creative educational and informative activities and campaigns to this list. So far in both Herat city (western city of Afghanistan neighboring Iran) and different districts of Kabul city we have:

• Distributed 1450 masks in the hospitals and for the public
• Painted 1130 social distancing rings in 343 locations in the public places
• Distributed 1888 face shields in the hospitals both in Herat and Kabul
• Produced 50 hand sanitizing stations mainly for the IDP camps of Kabul and installed most of them

We have received additional supports and are looking for more donations for expanding our work as the needs in Afghanistan are enormous.
