The objective is the reconstruction of the halls of the old La Ensenanza normal school, using traditional construction techniques to preserve the La Ensenanza Cultural Center. Our goal is to enable new spaces for exhibitions, workshops and cultural events, focused on the local community and visitors to San Cristobal. The reconstruction of these spaces will reinforce the activities of the center and ensure a prosperous future for the cultural heritage of our city.
La Ensenanza Cultural Center, located in an emblematic building, erected in 1893, a living testament to neoclassical splendor. Immortalized as movable cultural heritage, it was the first normal school in the Southeast. A nerve center of the history of San Cristobal de Las Casas and education in Mexico. Currently, over the years, it presents serious deterioration in most of its floors.
Rehabilitate 5 classrooms of the Teaching Cultural Center, placing floors and electrical installation. It will be done based on traditional construction techniques in order to preserve the historical and architectural integrity of the building. In this way, while the building is preserved and several of its halls are reactivated, traditional construction techniques are being rescued.
With the reconstruction of the floors, our goal is to enable new spaces for photography exhibitions, plastic arts, workshops and cultural events focused on the local community and visitors to San Cristobal, thus reinforcing the activities of the center, ensuring a prosperous future for the heritage culture of our city
