The project equips 50 preschool teachers in 25 schools with age and developmentally appropriate playing indoor and outdoor playing materials as well as playing techniques. It also promotes parenting educations/skills to strengthen the interaction of the parents with their children.
preschool age children in rural Ethiopia have no access to quality preschool education. preschool teachers lack playing and learning materials as well as play based teaching techniques as children learn best through play. Imported playing and learning materials are not only unaffordable but also not durable. parents also lack knowledge and skills to interact with their children. Children that learn through play at the preschool will perform better at the following grades achieving good results.
The project will equip the preschool teachers with the skills of producing age and developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor playing material from locally available resources. It will also build preschool teachers capacity on how to use the playing materials, story telling and learning corner developments. In addition, the project will capacitate parents on parenting skills, play materials development skills and child-to-adult interactions. School management capacity will also be improved.
1,250 children's full potential to learn and complete their education will be realized. The preschool teaching and learning processes, indoor and outdoor play material production and unitizations in 25 rural primary schools will also be improved. 5000 parents to child interaction will be positively improved. Promotion and completion of primary school children in 25 schools will be improved and this will impact the preschool standards in 100 schools in five targeted districts in Ethiopia.
