Project Report | Oct 6, 2020
International School for Science and Culture

By Padmini Srinivasan | Executive Director

Dear friends of ISSAC,

Thank you for a great start to our school year. With your help, so far, we have gratefully received $15,358. Thank you. With the help of your generous donations, ISSAC has been able to provide a vibrant virtual learning environment for our 150+ students. Where the family is not able to connect to the internet or provide a secure study space for their students, we have also been able to arrange childcare and a good environment for students to carry out their work.

We have grown to 158 students, exceeding our original number of 120. Students have received Chromebooks and older students have been given the opportunity to work with computers such as Lenovo Thinkpads to expose and familiarize them with using more advanced operating systems. Given the complexities of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, having the computers has been crucial in keeping our students connected and engaged.

Our students rap through Math challenges, learn to read with song lyrics, act like hungry racoons in Science, scavenger hunt to build their Mandarin and Spanish vocabulary, and in P.E., they are sweating! Our project-based learning curriculum ensures that they are engaging in their classes and these provided devices allow them to never miss a moment in the “classroom”.

Your gifts have been a lifesaver in more ways than one. Aside from doing their studies, hanging out online and being social with their peers and teachers has become a positive way for them to connect with one another during these times.

As we are a new school, GlobalGiving has paved for us a great way to start our fundraising journey. ISSAC simply cannot deliver a curriculum of such depth and breadth — that goes well beyond the standard academics to include Social Emotional Learning, plus creativity and problem solving skills — without the support of community members like you. Our students are learning; they are dreaming big dreams; and developing into amazing global citizens.

We appreciate your continued support.
