Dear Supports,
The 60 trained community health workers submitted baseline data about the health of 99 children with special needs in Dhaka. The community health workers are supporting approximately 300 children but for evaluation purposes MAITS is only requesting data of 1 - 2 families from each community health worker.
On the first home visit, community health workers collected base line information about the child according to which 47.5% children were in the age bracket of 2 - 6 years. The prominent disabilities are related to Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Learning disabilities. About 64% of the children reported chest infections in the last 3 months which can occur due to feeding difficulties and parents not being aware of the feeding techniques. Toileting, bathing, eating & drinking appeared to be the main challenges that the care givers were dealing with.
Based on this information, the CHWs trained parents on some of the techniques from the MAITS guide which has pictorial illustrations to help parents and family members learn about support their children with disabilities to become more independent.
We are receiving the data from the returned visit which is being reviewed and analysed to report on to.
MAITS team is very thankful to you for your support.
