By Julian Marcus | TDT Project Officer and Trustee
Thanks to the generosity of GlobalGivers and the Hlden Charitable Fund, all the funds neccssary for this project have been raised and the project will now be 'deactivated', as GlobalGiving calls it.
Actually, of course, the opposite is true! The project will very soon be 'activated'. because building will be complete, equipment moved in, and staff will be getting the clinic ready to receive payment. The years long wait for the Matongo people will be over, and the long dreamed for clinic will be open, maybe even by Christmas 2017.
The builders have been working hard, and in the attached pictures you can see them laying floors and plastering walls - yes, I know, American and British supervisors wouldn't like that "scaffolding", but the workers know what they are doing, and are, of course, glad of the work and pay involved.
What will the results be:
* Ante and post natal clinics in the valley: no more trudging 15km over the high hills
* Safe and hygienic delivery of babies with a trained midwife
* Mother and child clinics, and a full immunisation service. No more young people like Samuel getting polio.
* Hygienic circumcison for boys, (as advocated by the Tanzanian Government) to combat HIV infection.
* Quick diagnosis and treatment of malaria, HIV, and intestinal infections. Free anti-retroviral medication for those with HIV
* Good health education to help combat FGM
* Care for elderly residents
* A HEALTHIER, HAPPIER MORE PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY.
Thank you, GlobalGivers and Goodbye!
