Final approval for INMED's Aquaponics financing project benefitting Jamaican farmers has been received. Project launch is scheduled for this JUNE. This means the training and technical assistance workshops to introduce the farmers to aquaponics climate change agricultural technology and business practices will be coming up very soon.
One person who is VERY excited about these workshops and the financing that will be available to start her own aquaponics farming business is Tanesha residing in Montego Bay, Jamaica. "I have had an interest in farming from childhood, my siblings and I would take pleasure in planting flowers, peas and corns. I also loved aquatics, it has being a lifelong dream that my outdoor landscape would consist of a backyard garden and a stream running into a pond with fish in it. In September 2016 out of a need to gain a better financial stability I started researching aquaponics and started a small unit at home. We intend to learn more about aquaponics, gradually adding additional beds, incorporating technology such as a ph balance reader, thermometer, timer, increasing our data recording and building a business to sell the tilapias and crops. Our main goal is to have a registered family owned business from this venture."
INMED will begin developing the Aquaponics training workshops by next month and the first farmers will be receiving loans and training within a few months. Tanesha will be one of them! Your support helps small Jamaican farmers like Tanesha to realize their dream of a productive, climate resilient farming business. THANK YOU!
