Our goal is to create and manage two private nature reserves in Colombia, to provide a concrete climate action by developing multiple activities in them aimed at enhancing human-nature harmony, irradiating a positive example to both locals and visitors, and provisioning site facilities for a participatory-and-academic science able to nourish our communities with sustainable initiatives on good practices. We aim to generate a dynamic calendar of harmonious activities to learn and care of nature.
Lack of knowledge at local level about nature values and services, leading to bad practices that is gradually increasing our climate crisis. Not having that valuable recognition of nature rights and its interconection with human wellbeing makes it so hard to create change on people. Changes at all levels are gradual, but help on empowering our communities is needed too. Every little bit helps and perseverance is key - our focused regions (Lake Tota & La Hondura) need social capacity enhancement.
Our purpose is to create, manage and maintain two private nature reserves on key Andean sites (one next to Lake Tota at 3,015 m high, and another in a river canyon called La Hondura ranging from 1,850 to 2,200 m high), to deliver environmental culture by example through a calendar of activities, aiming at improving learning by experience and science for both locals and visitors. Ultimately, leading to more environmental awareness, long-lasting recognition of nature values, and positive changes.
From the two private nature reserves under our management, we envision them being well recognized as environmental education hubs that succeed on helping create a nature-harmonious society, at various levels. Besides, we are confident that our model to face climate crisis by creating nature reserves that help people change by experience, would be taken as a must-follow idea for others to addapt and replicate in other regions, same thing as we also nourish ourselves from other's examples.
