Access to clean water is essential for a healthy society, as it promotes good hygiene and significantly reduces the prevalence of waterborne diseases. Recognizing the importance of this necessity, the Sheepcare Community Centre is dedicated to providing clean water to the Soweto Slums in Nairobi, Kenya. This commitment was sparked by the alarming number of waterborne disease cases and the poor sanitation conditions in the community, where open sewers were prevalent, and some residents resorted to using contaminated sewer water in their homes due to a lack of access to clean water.
With the generous support of our donors, we successfully drilled a 600-foot community borehole to supply clean water to the community. This development has been a significant relief for the residents, as evidenced by the large number of people who queue to fetch water at our facility.
The positive impact of this initiative is evident. According to reports from the local community hospital, there has been a substantial reduction in the number of waterborne disease cases. Additionally, the overall hygiene conditions in the community have improved markedly. We are inspired by the many individuals who travel considerable distances to collect water, and we are now exploring the possibility of installing a domestic water supply system. This would involve piping water directly to households, thereby eliminating the need for community members to walk long distances to access this vital resource.
We are deeply grateful for your continued support through the GlobalGiving platform, which has been instrumental in helping us maintain the borehole and ensure a consistent water supply. The funds raised through GlobalGiving have enabled us to cover the ongoing costs of running the borehole, including electricity for pumping, repairs, maintenance, and personnel expenses.
We appeal for your continued support and ask you to help us reach out to like-minded individuals who can join us in making our vision of providing piped water to every doorstep a reality.
With sincere thanks and blessings,
