THANK YOU! What's Next?
By Olivia Robinson | Project Leader
Bonswa GlobalGiving Family,
How are you doing? We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well as we navigate through this unprecedented time. We are happy to report this will be our final report for our Clean Water-Sanitation Initiative for Rural Haiti because of YOU! Thank you for not only helping us reach our goal of $17,000, but surpassing it! Your philanthropic investment in 2019 and the early part of 2020 will allow our Partner Community to construct 15 new latrines. However, before construction can begin, we need to ensure our Partner Communities remain healthy and safe as they face COVID-19. In order to address this current health crisis, we have started a new project on GlobalGiving: C2C Collaborative: COVID-19 Response. Our goal is to educate, equip and financially support our Partner Communities as they create COVID-19 response packets to slow and prevent the spread. As we close out our Clean Water-Sanitation Initiative for Rural Haiti, we encourage you to check out our C2C Collaborative: COVID-19 Response project and share with your networks. Once we reach our funding goal to help our communities combat COVID-19, the sooner they can safely continue the work they were already engaged in; constructing latrines to ensure proper health and sanitation and establishing a trade school in their community. Thank you again for all of your support to overcome the health and sanitation challenge. Together, we are sure we can overcome this next challenge as well!

New Year...New Hope

Bonswa GlobalGiving Family,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones and started 2020 (and a new decade!) off on a strong note. The last time you heard from us, we shared that for the first time in nine years we were unable to go to Haïti for our Partner Community Visits (PVC) due to the political, social and economic environment in the country throughout 2019. However, that did not deter us from continuing to plan with our Project Managers and Partner Communities to ensure that the work could continue in 2020. Also, we are happy to report that YOUR unwavering support in 2019 has helped us to almost reach our funding goal, which has helped secure our Partner Community’s ability to construct the next 15 latrines in the Spring/Summer of 2020! Thank you so much to our monthly supporters and our new supporters for helping us to get closer to reaching our goal. Your efforts have not only helped 85 families in the community construct their own latrines that are all still in operation today, but also has ensured no new cases of Cholera in the community. For those who may not know, Cholera is an infectious and often fatal bacterial disease of the small intestine, typically contracted from poor sanitation and infected water sources, causing severe vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. Cholera affects both adults and children and can kill within hours if left untreated. Since the launching of the latrine initiative with our Partner Community to improve the water and sanitation in their community, this threat has greatly decreased and the quality of life for the community's children has greatly increased. When we first started working with our Partner Community, Cholera was the biggest health risk to the community. Health and sanitation, by way of latrines, was an essential need to be addressed. Now that Cholera is no longer a major health threat to the community, they have begun to focus on their next endeavour, proper education for the children in the community via establishing a trade school in the same area where we held community meetings with them during our last PCV. Again, thank you for your continued support of our Partner Community and their work towards creating their own self-sufficiency. We are so excited to delve into this new prospect with them and look forward to sharing more concrete details in our upcoming reports with you. Until then… be well and may 2020 yield abundance, growth and results for you and your loved ones.

The Situation on the Ground...
By Olivia Robinson | Project Leader
Bonswa GlobalGiving Family,
We hope all has been well and you are experiencing a wonderful Fall season! When you last heard from us, we had been meeting all throughout the summer, planning and preparing for our upcoming Partner Community Visit (PCV) in December. One of the goals for this trip was for our Partner Community to begin construction on the next 15 latrines. Unfortunately, due to the current political, social and economic instability in Haiti, we, along with our project managers and Partner Communities on the ground, have decided to postpone our visit until 2020. For C2C and our Partner Communities, this was a very difficult decision to make, as this is the first year, in C2C history, we have not been able to travel to Haiti and work with our Partner Communities in the nine years we have been operating. Therefore, we adapted and adjusted by holding planning meetings via email, WhatsApp, and Zoom. The country's current situation has not prevented our communication and planning with our Partner Communities on a monthly basis, as it relates to the next latrine constructions and their proposal regarding building a trade school within the community as well. Their spirits and optimism for a resolution to their current situation remain high and positive, as does ours. We continue to plan and prepare so that we will be ready for the work to start again in 2020. Thank you for your continued support and we hope to share more progress made in our next report in the new year. Until next time, be well and have a wonderful holiday season!
