Hey friends!
We had the privilege of meeting with one of the leaders at Mama Baby named Patricia. She works as a midwife in Michigan and wanted to connect to plan on our upcoming project! We wanted to send you a little update on all that she shared!
First, things in Haiti have continued to be difficult. In Cap Haitian, where the clinic is being built, there have been increased safety issues with the recent protests and road blocks. They used to get water deliverd through a service to the old clinic but that has now stopped due to the service shutting down. They are unable to run their equipment without fuel and unable to deliver the water due to fuel shortages and safety. Patricia shared that our project will be more important than ever once they are ready for the system.
Second, she shared with us the incredible effort that has gone into continuing the clinic build despite all the challenges. The building is up now and they are completing rooms! Pending safety for travel, we can now begin to plan the installment of the system! The staff has been incredibly brave and some stay at the compound so that mothers coming to the clinic have help delivering their babies even in the midst of so much turmoil.
Lastly, it was great to meet in person finally and to begin planning the project that has been a long time coming! Thank you for your patience with our progress. As we often say at Poured Out, everything is on Haitian time. And this time around that has been even longer than we expected! But we are hopeful that we can complete this project if the safety concerns allow us to travel. Today there are still heavy protests ongoing in Cap Haitian as well as across Haiti and shortages continue. We will update you all as we progress even slowly towards the goal!
Thank you for your support of these important projects and for all you do at Poured Out!
Sara
