By Dharmaraju Kakani | Secretary
First and foremost, our profuse thanks to all the donors and supporters who have generously given their funds to support the joy of reading amongst school going children. The importance of physical books and library spaces is being re-discovered in niches the world over and we are glad that we are able to support in our little way in these efforts.
While a lot of our effort goes into the physical provisioning of the books and access to the same, we also constantly communicate with the teachers and school, to motivate them to keep the spirit of the library alive by giving books home to read, encouraging the students to write about what they read and share the joy of the book in different ways.
Often times such communciations seems like a thankless job, as some schools are responsive and others not. We are lucky to have one dedicated volunteer who has been helping us keep the communications alive with the different schools. He is Mr. Ramamohan Rao Kakani who was also the secretary of our society for two decades. He is the epitome of what volunteerism is and what it can achieve over a sustained period of engagement and time. We are grateful to him for his services so far. He continues to be active volunteer even as he appriaches his nineties!
With the funds received from the different donors, we have established 1 library in a Girls Residential schools and another 2 are in the pipeline and will be commissioned soon. Some of the smaller donations will be utilised for the replenishment of the books during the Julu-Aug 24.
