The main objective of this project is to expand the healthcare impact and provide better quality of medical and dental care to rural communities in need.
As we informed in our last report, we had to postpone the date for this trip due to the major power failure Venezuela experienced.
We are happy to report that visit to the community to Apartaderos in Merida happened between the 15th-20th of September.
Approximately 40 volunteers from "Proyecto Mayú" traveled over 600 kms by land and stayed for a 5 days in the Apartaderos community in Mérida offering quality medical, dental and psychological care to as many as possible.
During this programme 1017 patients where seen in the general consult and 890 especialized consults where made under the following specialties: Internal medicine, Paedoatrics, Gynaecology and Parasitology.
The medical team also lead community workshops related to medical topics and hygiene. Furthermore, the psychology team dictated workshops covering subjects like: sexual education, immigration grief and domestic violence.
Medicines donated by the Chamos team, where distributed to those in need in the community (contraceptives, baby formula, analgesics amogst others).
The water filter we sent, served to give clean water to everyone during the programme, including all the staff.
Another part of the funds collected during this camopaign was used to send paediatric wheelchairs to Venezuela.
54 wheelchairs have been distributed so far, to children with diverse types of paralysis, that before receiving the new wheelchair, where bedriden or using unsuitable chairs for their conditions.
These chairs have made a big impact on the quality of life of the reciepients and of their families and caregivers.
