2020 was a challenging year for most everyone - physically, emotionally, relationally, and economically. Although HRI secured support towards our Children First program, we are 37% short of our goal. We have pulled funds from our coffers to pay for the Children First program this first quarter.
In October, HRI was given the great opportunity through another partnership to provide a private school education for 215 extremely vulnerable children. This is a HUGE partnership accomplishment.
However, that means the number of meals we are providing each school day through the Children First program jumped from 125 to 215 without time to prepare. Children in Haiti returned to school in November. Therefore, we have been providing their nutritious school lunches since then.
In November, we distributed books to the children. For most, this was the first books they ever owned.
In December, we provided a wonderful Christmas celebration for the core families enrolled in the parent training program. The children received gifts, and everyone enjoyed a special holiday meal.
Additionally, HRI has been working with the parents - mostly which are single parent, women-headed households - to begin training the parents on parent-child relationships, financial management, and business development and management. These trainings will last for many months as we work to prepare the parents to launch or expand their small businesses so they can meet the basic needs of their families by this time next year completely on their own.
As we begin 2021, we hope you will partner with us as a monthly partner so we can together provide school lunches to children, psychosocial support and medical care to children and parents, and training and mentorship to whole families.
Thank you!
