HURRAY! ITS OUR FINAL TERM,FOR THE YEAR 2022

Our children on the first day of school, this term

Dear friends and supporters

Thread of life is thrilled to share with you the updates on what is happening with our children's lives. To be reminded that our children are studying from 6 different schools. That are Wakiso Christian schools, Kasubi parents’ school, Mirembe primary school, Mulago school for the deaf, and Kampala school for the handicapped.

All our 15 actively sponsored children are in the final term of their school year, which will end in the second week of December.

The month of August was their break-off and holiday time. Only 3 of our children are in candidate classes and they were asked to stay at school for holiday lessons so that they may catch up with the syllabus and the studies they missed during the covid 19 period. We are happy to let you know that your support enabled us to fund their holiday studies as well. The same program prepares them for their candidate class which they will enter next year. That means next year they will be in primary 7, this grade, passed shifts them to high school.

Challenges

One of the major challenges that the program is facing, was partly the impact of covid 19. The country is going through an economic recession and because of that prices for everything went high including school fees which almost doubled. This has affected us so much that this year around we were unable to add to the number of children under sponsorship. and also managing to pay for our children who are already on the program worries us.

This very year, we had plans to contribute 100% to the school requirements, to help the mothers who find it so hard to support their children with some requirements. But because of the increasing unemployment and rising prices, we are unable to do so. Our finances are still limited.

Children’s story

This time around we are sharing the story of one of our children called Rianah and Rodney who are orphans. The two lovely children are siblings who lost their father in an accident in 2017. Their mother Is a school dropout, and she was a stay home mother because failed to get a decent job, she used to go through the neighborhood selling craft shoes, and sometimes she would sell, and other times she would come back with no income. ever since the death of her husband, the children stopped going to school completely. We took the two beautiful children up for sponsorship. We are encouraging their mother and helping her to get a decent job so that she can be able to get them a place to stay and put food on their table. In this way, we believe that we are empowering the family.

We thankful we are in Term II

The longer-term impacts of COVID-19 on the education system in Uganda have greatly affected our children in schools. The longer the kids stayed home caused the children to not want to be in school again. Most children especially from low-income families where our children come from were engaging in income-generating activities because they had to help their mothers to earn to be able to support their families, majority of the slum children are out of school because their parents are not able to pay the rising fees, those that have managed to get back to school, their academic performance in the first term was greatly influenced by what happened during those the 2 years they were not in school. We are working along with the schools to see that we support and encourage our children to fall back into the morale they had for books.

Since the school fees almost doubled, school requirements became so expensive as an effect of covid 19, our organization has been greatly affected as well, this year we weren’t able to add on a new child to our sponsorship program as a goal has been for each year. Out of 139 children registered for this program, we have 15 children that are fully sponsored in school, and we are happy to report that all their school requirements and fees are covered for this second term. We can’t stop thanking all our monthly donors who have committed to seeing that our children are paid for and are sustained in school. Thank you very much.

Julius is one of our students whose education journey we have walked with him since he was 5 years old. Julius has been raised by a single mother, with his other older sibling. Julius is born and raised within the Katanga slum, this is where he has been all his life, his father abandoned them when his mother was pregnant. Julius didn’t get a chance to see his father taking care of them or his mother. What is so amazing is that Julius wants to be a different boy, to make a good husband when he grows up. he also wants to take care of his mother, even at his tender age he is promising that he wants to become a doctor, get a good salary and build his mother a decent home. Currently, he is Senior 1, we happy that we have walked 7 years with Julius and we want to see him graduate 8 years from now.

HURRAY! SCHOOL ARE NOW FULLY OPEN IN UGANDA

Greetings to all of you, our donors. We greatly appreciate your support and for believing in our mission.

On 10^th January 2022, schools were reopened and many Children in Uganda managed to back to see the light of formal Education again for it provides many intellectual benefits to society, where school serves as a place where children develop mentally, physically, and socially. Unfortunately, for some children living in poor communities in Uganda, it is still a dream for them because their parents can’t afford to pay for their education.

With the closure of the Education system for the past two years, when the schools reopened, they were highly expensive for the poor communities to afford in Uganda. The community we serve has households with at least 5 to 8 people living in one single room house and can only afford one meal a day much less afford the expensive education for their children. With the low-income households in our community education still becomes inaccessible for these poor children.

As an organization, we managed to put 14 children in boarding schools who reported to school on the 10th of January 2022. The children and their mothers were very excited for yet another opportunity to get back into school after a very long time. Although some of them could not afford to buy the other school requirements for their children which caused the kids to report late in school. Most of our kids have reported back to school and are settling in well.

Among the most excited children is Paul our new child that we got from the street last year, we reconnect him with his mother and now he is in school.

We wouldn't be able to do this without your support. So Thank you all!
