By The Team of Chance4all | Project Leader
Dear Supporters,
We hope you and your loved ones are doing well during these challenging times. Schools in Zambia were closed from the end of March, and so was our Space4all community center. As a direct response to COVID-19, we had to readjust and be creative with our objectives and activities for our Space4all project to support the students and vulnerable members of the Bauleni community.
Space4all in Action during COVID-19:
Providing Tuition for Examination Classes at Space4all
As announced in the previous report, as of June 1st, there was a partial re-opening of Zambian schools for the examination classes of Grades 7, 9 and 12.With the partial re-opening, we were able to welcome back our students in our Space4all community center, so that students in those grades could prepare for their upcoming exams. We strictly followed COVID-19 governmental guidelines, therefore all students had to wash their hands before coming into the classroom, wear face masks and maintain physical distance.During this period we welcomed a new science teacher for the tuition of the secondary students. This support is still ongoing and is making a very positive impact on the students
Distribution of Homework Packages at Space4all
In response to schools being closed, we introduced "homework packages" to support the continued learning of Chance4all students in 7 subjects. These were handed over to them at Space4all and were meant to provide learning material over a 4-week period. Our plan was to extend this service to the community schools in the event that schools would remain closed. Fortunately, the Zambian government announced that schools would re-open as of Monday, September 21st. This program has been halted but we are prepared to resume this initiative should schools be closed again due to COVID-19.
Activities at Space4all since September 21
Since September 21, when the schools reopened for all grades, we have been happy to welcome back students from Grade 1 to 12 and offer individual mentoring and group tuition. We have also resumed our nutritional program which, during lockdown, was substituted by the provision of individual food packages directly to the families of sponsored students.
These last months have been a real challenge for the whole world. We are proud to say that, even in such difficult circumstances, we managed to be flexible and adapt the activities for Space4all to the rapid changes in our operating context to the benefit of the children and the community we support. We take this opportunity to recognize how much we value your support and to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all that have made this possible through your valuable contributions. Whatever we were able to do was a direct result of the contributions of our donor community. We could not have achieved all this without you!
