Thank you—we can’t say it enough! Because of your generosity, communities struggling after severe floods and landslides in central Ecuador were able to receive holistic support in the aftermath of these events.
Your donation to the Central Ecuador Flood and Landslide Relief Fund powered one grant to Fundación Niños de Maria. For nearly 25 years, the organization has focused on providing high-quality education to children living in vulnerable conditions and extreme poverty in Ecuador. The recent flooding and landslides damaged the homes of seven of its students.
Thanks to your donation the organization worked closely with private and public institutions to provide food, water, medical aid, blankets and mattresses, and other materials needed to clean and rebuild homes, especially the homes of its students. The organization’s staff and volunteers came together to provide equipment for cleaning the mud and water from the streets and houses. Fundación Niños de Maria is also providing direct support to at least a dozen families in its community that have lost a family member due to the flooding and the landslides.
This fund is no longer accepting donations, and this will be the last fund report of this kind from our team. Thank you again for advancing community-led disaster recovery.

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
