Careers Inspiration For Every Child

Last week’s Cambridge Independent had two articles that caught my attention:

One showed that Cambridge retained the top spot in the Global Innovation Index as the most intensive science and technological cluster in the world, beating San Jose/San Francisco and Oxford.

The other reminded us that schools in the East of England continue to receive the lowest funding per pupil in England at £6,049 per head, nearly £3,000 less than Inner London.

How can we ensure that young people growing up in the East can aspire to careers in the fast-moving science and tech sectors – and more – given the low levels of investment in their education?

Our mission is to connect young people to a world of career opportunities and working in an environment where the opportunities are immense but schools are poorly resourced is a reminder of how essential our work is and the funding that our supporters provide.

One of the areas of need that's growing is that of students with special educational needs, so often excluded from the labour market, and yet with talents and desire to progress. We're exploring new approaches to support those who may not have the parental support or the confidence to explore their options. We'll keep you posted on plans!

Last year we worked with over 22,000 young people and our target this year is to work with 26,000. We're on track and excited to see what difference we can make in this school year.
