Care of malnourished children in Haiti

Summary

The number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Haiti increased by 19% in 2024, according to recent findings from analysis conducted by the integrated Food Security Classification Framework (IPC). In addition, 1.64 million people face acute food insecurity corresponding to phase 4 of the classification (emergency level), which increases the risk of wasting and malnutrition among children, especially in eight regions of the country.

Challenge

The number of children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Haiti increased by 19% in Haiti, according to recent finding from analysis conducted by the integrated Food Security Classification Framework (IPC).

Solution

The project aims to create clubs for breastfeeding mothers. An awareness program aimed at strengthening the knowledge of pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women with children, particularly those affected by malnutrition, on good practices in the fight against malnutrition. Provide nutritious food supplements based on agricultural products such as breadfruit, moringa, bananas, to children under 5 years old whose growth and development are seriously affected by malnutrition.

Long-Term Impact

CHSAN has a program where food supplements based on agricultural products such as breadfruit flour, moringa powder, bananas flour give very good results in the fight against malnutrition.
