This Project will economically and mentally empower 140 blind persons at the Special Education for the blind Afara Ukwu Umuahia Abia State South East of Nigeria with professional trainings in bead craft making, detergent and disinfectant production and computer literacy workshops as well as blind aid accessories provision.
Life for the blind in Nigeria particularly of south east is a very tough one as it is laced with stigmatization, lack of provisions and care especially by the government,inadequate learning facilities, little or no welfare provisions in rehabilitation centers and no conducive atmosphere for learning in the few available schools. Most of these blind eventually resort to street begging and total dependence on alms for survival, because they have not been empowered to fend for themselves.
The target school for the blind Afara Ukwu Umuahia in Abia State South East of Nigeria will be better equipped to cater for the blind pupils and students. These blind persons will eventually develop capacity to live a better life being able require little or no aid for survival. The computers and gadgets will improve learning, the craft and local production skill acquisition will empower the blind persons to live a better life.
At least 80 blind persons will be immediately empowered especially after the 3 months thorough training. The school for the blind Afara Ukwu Umuahia in Abia State South East of Nigeria will be better equipped to improve the lives of blind persons in the state an beyond.
