Capacity building matters

Discussion during training of new immigrant women
Discussion during training of new immigrant women

A wealthy economy, like Hong Kong does not necessarily indicate a commitment to social change philanthropy, and a developed economy does not necessarily go hand in hand with even distribution of resources. To combat imbalances in resource distribution, there is a strategic need to raise donations to support the capacity building of the small grassroots and marginalized women's organizations, so that they can provide peer to peer service to women facing similar situation as well as organizing collective action to improve the social situation. With the donation, a group of low income women, who are care-givers of the family, were able to conduct a training workshop on organizational management,  skills on finance and adminstration and fundraising. This capacity building opportunity allowed them to reflect on their organization's development and to give further insights to them for future growth. Participants became more confident in themselves after the training, which was good to themselves, their families and the community.
