RESTORE AND CONSERVE BUNYALA FOREST IN KENYA

Project Report | Nov 21, 2024
Initial Report

By Bonface Sikuku | Project and Finance Officer

Objective:

The Action for Child Development Trust (ACDT) is leading an initiative to restore the Bunyala Forest through the planting of indigenous tree species. This effort aims to revitalize the local ecosystem, enhance biodiversity, and contribute to climate change mitigation by reforesting areas of significant environmental value.

Funding Status:

Through the support of various global fund initiatives, ACDT has successfully secured 4,000 indigenous tree seedlings. However, there remains a substantial deficit of 496,000 seedlings needed to meet the reforestation goals. Additional funding is required to procure these seedlings and cover the costs associated with tree planting and long-term maintenance.

Current Progress: Secured Seedlings: 4,000 indigenous tree seedlings.

Seedling Deficit: 496,000 seedlings still required to achieve full reforestation.

Additional Needs: Beyond seedlings, the project requires further financial resources for maintenance and planting to ensure the survival and growth of the forest.

Call for Support:

ACDT invites additional contributions from global funding bodies, governmental agencies, and private donors to address this shortfall. Securing the remaining seedlings and ensuring adequate care post-planting are essential to meeting the environmental and social benefits envisioned for the Bunyala Forest.

Impact of Restoration:

Successfully meeting this target will:

Improve biodiversity by creating a habitat for wildlife.

Enhance carbon sequestration, aiding climate change mitigation.

Support sustainable water cycles, benefiting both local agriculture and communities.

ACDT remains committed to transparent and efficient use of funds and resources to achieve these goals and appreciates the ongoing support of partners in restoring the Bunyala Forest.
