Our apologies! This report was meant to be sent at the end of March but went to the wrong list. We hope you enjoy, if a bit late.
Feliz año nuevo from team PSYDEH (a belated happy new year)! We hope this report finds you well.
Early 2025 has been a season of intentional inquiry, planning, and new directions. Each year, we choose to ease into annual plans and activities after the craziness of the holiday season—we have learned over the years that starting our programming in February gives our team the time it needs to check in with women partners, evaluate progress, and ensure that our work is fully aligned with local needs and long-term strategy. This also gives us time to participate in exciting events like our second annual music festival, which are important for our internal team as well as women partners and their families. More on that below!
2025 Annual Planning
After the completion of our 3-year strategic plan in 2024, as an organization we now take a step back to measure impact and plan next steps while maintaining our commitment to progress in the field. Based on last year's women-produced regional agenda, this year's field work will center around an open-call that allows women's cooperatives to gain experience working on a productive project of their choosing, while continuing to engage in network-wide initiatives such as the regional brand (Marca RSM) and sustainable tourism pilot (Ruta RSM). This open-call process will specifically support 5-8 groups of women in:
2nd Annual Girls Just Wanna Weekend Festival
January 2025 was PSYDEH's second time participating as an NGO partner for Brandi Carlile's Girls Just Wanna Weekend festival in Cancun. The Looking Out Foundation supported eight PSYDEH team members in attending the event, hosting a sales table, and leading a craft workshop for festival partcipants. The event draws thousands of people, mostly women, to enjoy music, activities, and workshops, weaving intersectionality and learning to create a welcoming environment for all.
PSYDEH's table showcased artisanal goods made by our women partners across the region. Our local team, including one cooperative member, traveled from Hidalgo with 5 suitcases full of products and sucessfully sold over $12,000 USD of stock, including clothing, tote bags, homewares, coffee and cacao. We also led a sold-out embroidery workshop with artist Brittney Spencer.
Partnerships in the Works
Partnerships such as our collaboration with the Looking Out Foundation are a crucial part of PSYDEH's work: they help us obtain financial, in-kind, and human resources, and also promote our mission to a wider audience, giving us a platform to share our women partners' successes and ongoing challenges. This year we also look forward to another round of our highly successful skills-based partnership with Viasat corporation, planned for April and involving a record number of employees from around the world. In addition, we continue to grow our Tech for All programming with allies such as the Honnold Foundation and the FRIDA fund.
As always, we couldn't do any of this without your support. Whether you are a longtime PSYDEH supporter or new to our work, we look forward to sharing our 2025 with you.
¡Juntos somos mejores!
Katie & the PSYDEH team
