WHO WE ARE

CSC aims to improve the quality of life for disabled poor people by providing free rehabilitation surgery. Integral to CSC’s mission is a program of training local surgeons and hospital staff by international experts – focusing on the development of sustainable surgical services.

Meet Sorn

is a 75-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has three sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren. She enjoys taking care of her grandchildren and visiting the pagoda. Sorn had a growing mass in her right lower eyelid which has been diagnosed as basal cell carcinoma. Her neighbor encouraged her to come to Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) to see if she could be treated.  Fortunately, on September 23rd, surgeons at CSC performed an excision and skin flap procedure to remove the growth. Now, she needs help to fund this $657 procedure.

CHALLENGES

As the new year began, CSC has the unwanted and monumental task of finding a new home to continue our mission of rehabilitative surgery for the underprivileged and teaching our Khmer staff to ensure the efforts are sustained. Activity in 2019 was similar to 2018, with just under 4,000 operations and 33,000 consultations.

When the COVID 19 pandemic hit Cambodia, CSC was forced to curtail operations, furlough staff, and re-think how to manage in a world with COVID 19. Donations have fallen about 30% with many large donors ceasing support.

Our mission is to directly connect people through technology to access life-changing surgery. We are guided by the needs of our patients and strive to help them achieve health and meaningful change in their lives. CSC aims to improve the quality of life for disabled poor people by providing rehabilitation surgery.
